The Fundamentals of Total Worker Health Practice course assumes prior knowledge about the foundational principles of a TWH approach. We recommend that you complete the Introduction to TWH Principles before starting this course.
This course describes how Total Worker Health (TWH) concepts apply to professional practice in occupational safety, health, and well-being fields. The course content addresses topics appropriate for industrial hygienists, environmental safety and health managers, safety specialists, human resources managers, occupational health nurses, and union health and safety stewards.
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Define the five essential elements of a TWH approach as defined by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
- Describe how a TWH approach differs from traditional workplace safety and wellness programs
- Apply the NIOSH Hierarchy of Controls model adapted for Total Worker Health
- Reflect on the value of the TWH elements for your practice or organization
- Locate resources available for implementing a TWH program approach
Learning activities include videos, readings, and other assessment and application activities. Participants can start, stop, and resume as desired. Total estimated course time is 2-3 hours.
This course is NOT pre-approved by professional licensing bodies; however, participants who complete all required course activities will receive a certificate of completion that can be used to claim educational credit from professional accrediting boards.
